Construction Safety Checklist

Purpose: This comprehensive checklist ensures all critical safety protocols are followed on construction sites. Complete this inspection daily before work begins and address any deficiencies immediately. Safety is everyone's responsibility.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Hard hats properly fitted and in good condition (no cracks, dents, or modifications)
High-visibility safety vests worn by all personnel in designated areas
Safety glasses or face shields appropriate for task hazards
Work gloves suitable for specific tasks (cut-resistant, chemical-resistant, etc.)
Fall protection equipment inspected and properly worn when required
Steel-toed safety boots in good condition
Hearing protection available and used in high-noise areas (85+ dB)
Respiratory protection available for dust, fumes, or chemical exposure
Worksite Setup & Access Control
Warning signs and safety notices posted at all entry points
Perimeter barriers and fencing properly installed and maintained
Access and egress points clearly marked and unobstructed
Fire extinguishers properly placed and recently inspected
Adequate lighting in all work areas
Weather conditions assessed and appropriate precautions taken
Visitor check-in procedures followed and PPE provided
Fall Protection Systems
Guardrails installed at all elevated work areas 6 feet or higher
Personal fall arrest systems inspected before each use
Anchor points tested and certified for 5,000 lb minimum strength
Ladders inspected for damage and properly secured
Scaffolding erected by competent person and daily inspection completed
Safety nets installed where guardrails and harnesses are not feasible
Hole covers secured and marked for floor/roof openings
Tools & Equipment Safety
Daily equipment inspections completed and documented
Lockout/tagout procedures followed for maintenance and repairs
Heavy equipment operators properly certified and current
Power tools equipped with proper guards and safety devices
Electrical cords and connections inspected for damage
Ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) used for temporary power
Compressed gas cylinders properly stored and secured
Housekeeping & Material Handling
Walkways and work areas clear of debris and obstacles
Materials properly stacked, secured, and within height limits
Spills cleaned immediately and slip hazards eliminated
Waste materials disposed of safely and regularly
Sharp objects and protruding nails properly covered or removed
Lifting techniques reviewed and mechanical aids used when appropriate
Emergency Preparedness
First-aid kits fully stocked and easily accessible
Eyewash stations and emergency showers functional and unobstructed
Emergency contact numbers posted in visible locations
Evacuation routes clearly marked and communicated to all workers
Emergency assembly points designated and known by all personnel
Communication devices available for emergency situations
Documentation & Compliance
Daily safety logs completed and filed
Toolbox talks conducted and attendance documented
Required permits verified and posted (hot work, confined space, etc.)
Incident reports filed within 24 hours of occurrence
Safety data sheets (SDS) available for all hazardous materials
Training records current and accessible
